By Bethany Phillips, Library Media Specialist – Sandwich High School/STEM Academy

On March 16th local author Kate Conway organized a Young Adult author panel to visit Sandwich High School and STEM Academy. This group of popular authors included: A.C. Gaughen (Lady Thief), Trisha Leaver (Creed), K.R. Conway (Cruel Summer), Kathleen Brenner Duble (Madame Tussaud’s Apprentice), Natasha Friend (My Life in Black and White), and Katie O’Sullivan (Blood of a Mermaid).

They talked with students about their own love of storytelling, how they became writers, and how students can cultivate their own tall tales. The panel represented a variety of different genres such as contemporary, alternate history, urban paranormal, fantasy, and psychological horror.

This was a wonderful opportunity for students interested in becoming writers to learn from published Young Adult authors. During the panel students even had the opportunity to ask questions about the author’s experiences.
