Gratitude Week 2015: Monday, Nov. 16 – Friday, Nov. 20

Sponsored by the Oak Ridge Respect for Human Differences Committee & Exploring the 7Cs

We are thrilled to introduce Gratitude Week to our new school community! The Respect for Human Differences Committee (RHDC) created “Gratitude Week” four years ago to highlight the positive energy, happiness, and sense of community that naturally evolves when we feel and express gratitude for the good in our lives and each other.

This year our objective is to help students conclude that when they are grateful they can take action to show/express that gratitude through words and acts of kindness. The scope of activities planned reaches our students, our teachers & staff, and our community.

During the Exploring the 7Cs class, students are writing a gratitude list and making a pledge to take actions to show their gratitude. We are creating a Gratitude Graffiti Wall for students to write and draw what they are thankful for in their community. In their homerooms, students are working throughout the week on a Gratitude Journal discussing and identifying what they are thankful for in their personal lives, at home, in school, and in their community.

To express gratitude to our community, we will be collecting donations for Toys for Tots at the Oak Ridge Turkey Trot on Wed., Nov. 25th. New unwrapped toys are needed for children in our own community. The PTA is hosting a Teacher & Staff Appreciation Breakfast on Thursday, November 19 before school. There will also be a Community Gratitude Graffiti Wall at the Thanksgiving Sandwich 5K on Thanksgiving morning. Register for the Thanksgiving Sandwich 5K here: https://registration.mylaps.com/thanksgivingsandwich5k/

Lastly, we will be having a Community Action Day this Saturday from 10-12 to rake leaves for those members of our community.  You can read and download a flyer about our first Community Action Day here: OR FALL 2015 Community Action Day

Our mission is simple- to shift our perspectives to the positive in our world.

“A grateful world is a world of joyful people. Grateful people are joyful people, and joyful people — the more and more joyful people there are, the more and more we’ll have a joyful world.”- David Steindl-Rast.

Let’s all create more joy.
