Class of 2020 – Important Event at SHS on May 10, 2016!

The following note was sent to all 8th grade parents and includes an invitation to and an explanation about the May 10th event.

Dear Parents of incoming 9th graders,

Sandwich is one of the many schools in the country to roll out one to one technology. The 2016-2017 school year marks the sixth year of our commitment to one to one devices as a tool to support the development of 21st century teaching and learning. We have arranged a partnership with CDW-G to pass along education discounting on select Lenovo and Acer Chromebooks to students who wish to purchase their own device.  These devices will offer a variety of choices not available on a school issued device.  We will be hosting an information night for the class of 2020 May 10th with two sessions, 6:00pm and 7:15pm, in the SHS & STEM Academy Library so that you can see these devices in person as well as gather other information about joining Sandwich High School.

Event Schedule:

6:00-6:30PM – Group discussion covering technology use and the Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) orientation

6:30-7:00PM – Table sessions covering the following topics:

  • Chromebook Information

  • Device Insurance opportunities

  • PowerSchool Access

  • Sports Opportunities

  • Clubs & Peer Leaders

  • Getting Ready for High School

7:15-8:15PM – A repeat of the schedule above

Our hope is for students to have quick and easy access to the technology tools and information they will need to be successful in a technology rich educational and work environment. Your attendance is required at one of our Acceptable Use Policy Orientation sessions.

SHS will issue a device to anyone that does not provide one themselves.  As with all school-issued items, parents and students must enter into a contract which states simply, they are responsible for the equipment and must return it in good condition, (See Student Handbook, http://sandwich.k12.ma.us/shs/studenthandbook1415.pdf Section: Care of Text and Library Books pg 62). If the equipment is not returned in good condition, parents and students will be responsible for the full replacement cost.

Please carefully read and sign the Chromebook Policy (http://www.sandwich.k12.ma.us/shs/SHSChromebookManual.pdf ) and the Acceptable Use Policy ( http://www.sandwich.k12.ma.us/shs/AUP.pdf ) included with this letter and have your son/daughter bring them to school on the first day. These documents cover use of all devices within the district and is required for all students, even those that provide their own device. The AUP is also available on pages 57-59 in the STEM handbook if that is more convenient.

Worth Ave Group & Student Insurance Partners is offering an optional insurance program in the case of Accidental Damage (includes drops/cracked screens/liquid spills), Liquid Submersion, Theft, Fire/Flood Damage, Vandalism, Natural Disasters, Power Surge Due to Lightning. Parents wishing to sign up for this optional insurance may do so at:

Students must have all documents signed for their first day of Digital Literacy class in order to gain access to district resources.
