Henry T. Wing School, 1926-2015

This is the final year of the Henry T. Wing School and Principal Debra Landry is determined that the school and all its history will be celebrated with joy and respect. “Throwback Thursday” is a tradition on Facebook where people post old photos each Thursday… We will be Throwing back and applauding the history of Wing throughout this school year!

The Wing School was built in 1926. As the original school in Sandwich, it housed the entire school population until the Sandwich High School was built in 1976. Then the Wing School was used only for grades kindergarten through six. Although many additions had been built, by 1986 it had 1500 students and was absolutely bursting at the seams.

In 1989, two new kindergarten through eighth grade schools were built. All students attended the new schools while the Wing School was closed for renovations. In September 1990, the Wing School reopened. Currently the school serves grades Pre-K through 8, and has 810 students.

There’s a terrific article in SandwichEnterprise cropped about the beginning plans to celebrate Wing.
