As summer comes to an end…

Dear Colleagues:

Last evening, on a favorite journey to the Sandwich boardwalk, I could see a hint of fall as some marsh grass  has started to change color.  At the same time, there were tourists speaking French and German, mixed in with some of our students taking full advantage of the high tide and warm evening to enjoy the leap from the boardwalk.   I hope you are enjoying the summer months, and all the Cape has to offer.

Our schools have been very busy places this summer as we setup for the STEM Academy, and work with vendors on repairs to window sills, the pool, and completion of the second phase of the DeConto stadium.   Work in the district goes well beyond the high school/academy campus, as Wing plans for its final year and discussions are moving ahead on planning for the Sandwich elementary school, both the Forestdale PK-2 campus and the Oak Ridge 3-6 campus.  Many opportunities will be provided for faculty and staff to work with the administration, and a Pk-6 Parent Advisory group to plan and design this school with two campuses.

We bid farewell to some longtime, respected members of our administration, faculty, and staff, and have been fortunate to fill positions with wonderful new hires to join us as colleagues beginning with the new staff orientation on August 26.

First Student, our school bus company, is completing the routing and annual safety training for drivers.  They are also working with our team as we plan changes in the traffic flow and parking on the SHS/Academy campus.  Information on changes will be communicated to you from the high school and academy administration.

For your planning, all staff will begin on Wednesday, August 27 by reporting to Sandwich High School for our annual Convocation.  Refreshments will be provided beginning at 8:00AM, in the foyer outside of the auditorium.  The ceremony will begin at 8:30AM.  At the conclusion of the Convocation, the Sandwich Education Association leadership has asked that you remain in the auditorium for a brief meeting, before returning to your school.  On Thursday, August 28 all staff will report to their respective schools where time will be provided to work in classrooms, greet building-based colleagues, and have time with the school administration.  The day will begin at 8:00AM and will officially conclude at 3:00PM.

I look forward to seeing you at our opening activities as we officially mark the start of a new and exciting school year in Sandwich.   I hope you continue to enjoy your summer days with your family and friends.
