Celebrating Summer Reading @ SHS

Mr. Schermerhorn's Advisory group enjoyed a spirited discussion about their summer reading.

The 2014 school year was off to a great start with a celebration of reading during Sandwich High School’s
annual summer reading discussion sessions.

As in past years, students had many summer reading books from which to choose, with a wide variety so there was a title for every reading interest. This year, discussion groups were organized by Advisory, giving the students and their Advisory teachers additional time to spend together.

Some Advisories chose to read the same book, while others discussed a variety of titles. Students came to the discussion with a brief written response to their book and shared their impressions with the group. A new addition this year was that one student from each Advisory won a Barnes and Noble gift card, thanks to a Kiwanis grant.

Organizers of the summer reading program hope to continue to encourage a love of reading through this positive, all inclusive reading program.
