STEM Academy Service Project in honor of Martin Luther King Jr Day
by Jeff Duffany, Social Studies teacher – STEM Academy
On Monday January 19, 2015, four students from the Sandwich STEM Academy took part in a service event at Camp Lyndon in Sandwich. These 8th grade students are Caroline Perry, Alec Abramson, Evan Abramson, and Robbie Haggerty.
They were chosen to take part in this event by their teachers because of their leadership, compassion, and kindness.
Caroline, Alec, Evan and Robbie packed lunches for February vacation for 200 needy children on Cape Cod. They spent the morning packaging lunches, learning about health and wellness, and taking part in a Zumba class. This event was organized by AmeriCorp of Cape Cod.
The event was a big success and the student were able to give back to the community while reflecting on the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Congratulations to the students and to AmeriCorp for such a successful event.
In addition to the students, Wing School teacher Kristin MacDonald and STEM Academy teacher Wayne MacDonald also took part in the event.
