Participate in the Bruins Cradle-to-Crayons PJ Drive!

by Lauren Melillo, Sandwich Partnership for Families

Sandwich is always up for a challenge, especially when it comes to the youth in our community!  This latest challenge was issued by the Bourne Public Library to the Sandwich Public Library in its competition to collect the most children’s pajamas here on Cape.

The Sandwich Public Library & the Sandwich Partnership for Families are partnering with Cradles to Crayons and the Boston Bruins to provide new pajamas (sizes Toddler – 18/20) for local children in need across the Commonwealth.

Families are urged to make a difference by bringing in new pajama donations from now, until March 16th into the Library’s Children’s Room or the Discovery Center.

The winning community in Massachusetts is competing  for a Bruins Street Hockey Clinic for its residents.  Although this is the 8th year of this annual drive, it is the first year that Sandwich has participated.  Bourne was the 3rd place winner last year, winning an appearance by the Bruins mascot! You can learn more about the Bruins http://bruins.nhl.com/club/page.htm?id=59832

The Sandwich drive was kicked off on Feb. 7th  during the “Take Your Child To The Library” event, and featured an appearance by the Sandwich Blue Knight’s Hockey team, who dropped off the first contributions  to the donation box in the Sandwich Public Library’s Children’s Room.

SHS Hockey & PJs #2

One of our Sandwich Hockey Players donated himself into the PJ’s Donation Box! What great kids…

The drive will culminate in a Teddy Bear Dance Party, where children are urged to come and Party in their P.J.’s at noon  on Sat. March 14th, and are encouraged to bring a new pair of p.j.’s with them to donate.  In turn, they will receive a copy of “Pajama Time” a fun bedtime story by Sandra Boynton, which you can watch here!

Registration for the Teddy Bear Dance Party  (best for children 1-5 years) opens on Feb. 28th at www.sandwichpubliclibrary.com Event Calendar.
