In July – All Kindergarten, All the Time for two Forestdale teachers!

by Lauren Vena, Kindergarten Teacher – Forestdale School
In July, my colleague Mary Elliott and I had the experience of a lifetime, attending the National Kindergarten Conference in Las Vegas.  It was a week long conference of “All Things Kindergarten!”
I was able to attend thanks to the generosity of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society, having been awarded the Cornetet Individual Award for Professional Development (CIPD).  The CIPD Awards are available to all employed  educators nationwide who meet the stated criteria. The application process is competitive, and I  was able to receive funding for airfare, hotel, and conference.

The National Kindergarten Conference was 4 days of talking, listening, observing, interacting, and experiencing all the latest information about kindergarten.  Each day was filled with multiple presentations and hands on experiences. We learned a multitude of tried and true instructional techniques to continue to make learning fun and engaging. We learned from experienced early childhood professionals such as Jack Hartmann, Donna Whyte, and others.

We had fun meeting and collaborating with kindergarten teachers across the nation and discussing the differences and similarities of our classrooms. We came away inspired to teach what we had learned.  We gained knowledge that will be instrumental in our classrooms and we made new friends and yes, we shopped a little…okay, a lot!
