Boys & Girls Club of Cape Cod Offering Program for all SPS Late Starts & Early Dismissals

by Ruth Provost, Director – Boys and Girls Club of Cape Cod

Thanks to a grant from the Kiwanis Club of Sandwich, the Boys & Girls Club of Cape Cod will open early for all of the Sandwich schools’ scheduled Early Dismissal and Late Start days this year. The program is for students in grades 1-8 from the Forestdale School, Oak Ridge School, and the STEM Academy.

Sandwich schools have implemented five new Late-Start days this year, with school not opening until late morning. On those days the Boys & Girls Club of Cape Cod will open at 7:30 am so parents can drop their kids off at the Boys & Girls Club before they go to work, and the Club will drive the children to their school when they open later in the day.

The Late Start Days are the same at Forestdale, Oak Ridge and the STEM Academy. They are October 13, 2015 and January 12; February 9; April 12; and May 3, 2016

On the Early Dismissal Days  scheduled during the year, the Boys & Girls Club will continue the program that they have run in the past. The Club will provide transportation from the schools to the Boys & Girls Club of Cape Cod when they are dismissed. The vans from the Boys & Girls Club of Cape Cod will pick up children at dismissal times at the Forestdale and Oak Ridge schools and the STEM Academy at the High School.

For Oak Ridge and Forestdale, the Early Dismissal Days are Wednesday November 25, and the Parent-Teacher Conference Days of Dec 16 &17, 2015 and April 1, 2016.  For the STEM Academy, the Early Dismissal Days are Wednesday November 25, and the Parent-Teacher Conference Days of Nov 18 & 19, 2015 and April 27 & 28, 2016.

Thanks to the Sandwich Kiwanis & the Levreault Fund, there is no fee for the program however, children using it must become members of the Boys & Girls Club of Cape Cod, which is open to any Cape Cod child ages 6-18. Membership is only $100 for the entire school year – and payment plans and waivers will be available through the Kiwanis grant for children from Sandwich with documented need.

The Club is also open on all Mashpee half-days. The Boys & Girls Club is centrally located on the Upper Cape near the Mashpee Rotary, off of Rt. 151, and across the street from Mashpee Commons at 31 Frank E. Hicks Drive, just 13 minutes from Oak Ridge and 17 from Forestdale School.

There are only 26 slots available for the Sandwich Early Dismissal Days, and parents need to sign their children up in advance for each half-day by calling the Club up to the day before at 508-477-8845. Registration is first come, first served. Children must be, or become, registered members of the Club to attend the half day sessions, be age six or older, and must be picked up at the Boys & Girls Club before the program ends at 6 pm on the half days. Membership forms are available at the Boys & Girls Club of Cape Cod or on line at www.BoysGirlsClubCapeCod.org. The Boys and Girls Club of Cape Cod can also be found on facebook!

The Boys & Girls Club Afterschool Program is open to the any Cape Cod child ages 6-18. Membership is $100 for the entire school year and entitles a child to attend the Club at anytime that it is open for their age group, including school vacation weeks. Members have free access to the gym, game room, art programs, and computer room.
