Important Special Education Parent Workshop on November 7, 2017

The Sandwich Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC) is holding a workshop on Tuesday, November 7, from 7-8pm at the Forestdale School in Room 135. This workshop is for the families of all children who receive Special Education Support throughout the district.  The Basic Rights workshop will cover various topics including:

  • Federal and special education law
  • What to do if your student is struggling or if you suspect your child has learning challenges
  • Evaluations and assessments
  • Important timelines for evaluations, paperwork and more
  • Eligibility for special education services
  • Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
  • 504 Plans
  • Accommodations
  • Related services (e.g. counseling services, school nurse services, speech therapy, physical therapy, occupational therapy, psychological services and more)
  • Transition Planning to prepare students age 14 and over for education, employment, and independent living
  • How to resolve disagreements with the school district
