STEM:

The 8th graders are getting ready for a busy week after Memorial Day. Around 100 students will be spending the week in Washington D.C. and they are very excited about this opportunity. The students remaining in Sandwich will be involved in Excursion Week. They have field trips to Boston and to Heritage Gardens followed by a day of a variety of workshops taught by STEM teachers and a visit from the Boston Museum of Science.

Step Up Day for all 6th graders is June 7. The students will be assigned their teams for next year and briefly visit their teachers’ classrooms for a quick preview of their classes.

That evening is the Spring STEM Art Show from 5:30-7:30. Over 200 entries of art from 7th and 8th graders will be on display. There will be art supply giveaways, refreshments, art games, and live music. The event is free and open to the public.

Author Lauren Wolk will be visiting the students at STEM on June 8.

The 7th graders have field trips in June to the Audubon Society’s Long Pasture in Barnstable where they will work on establishing a vernal pool. They also will be visiting the Cape Cod National Seashore and attend several outdoor learning stations.

The 7th grade field day is scheduled for June 19 and the 8th grade that day will be attending Water Wizz.

The 8th grade Get to Know Your Mentor Day of activities is on June 12.

And the final event of the year will be the 8th grade celebration on June 21 as the STEM students move from being squires to blue knights. The event begins at 9:00 and parents are invited.

SHS:

Today was the last day for seniors. They have final exams Thursday and Friday and eagerly await the many wonderful events that define senior week next week. The school is buzzing with excitement about the prom this weekend. Once again, parent support for our prom safety assembly and the  spectacular after prom is recognized and deeply appreciated by the students.  This year’s prom safety assembly  was open to parents. The focus included distracted driving, a new and important concern for driving safety.

Congratulations to the technology department for hosting the highly successful Tech Faire last Thursday followed by the Since Expo on Friday. Both groups of students  shared wonderful work. Their energy and passion for their projects were contagious.

We wish our best to the wonderful Class of 2017 as they take their place among the proud and successful SHS alums!
