Our Garden is Growing -with a Little Help from our Friends!

by Paula Chambers, PK-6 Science Curriculum Coordinator
Mary Kay Fox, President of the Friends of Mashpee National Wildlife Refuge visited several Forestdale first and second grade classes this week. She came bearing gifts for the garden! A heartfelt thank you to Mrs. Fox and the NWR.
Children in Mrs. Iadonisi and Mrs. Delano’s Class were delighted as they dug in, along with parent and community volunteers, to make some upgrades to the expanding garden beds.
The new plants were installed as part of a national movement to create habitats for precious pollinators .  Additionally  a lovely arbor and our first birdhouse was donated – all courtesy of Mashpee NWR.  Teachers learned about pollinators and pollinator gardens during their school vacation week, as described here: https://sandwichlearnstogether.org/2017/04/21/busy-as-bees-during-vacation-weekpollinating-our-science-curriculum/
Many K-2 teachers hope to be working in the garden in upcoming weeks. If you are interested in volunteering to help with watering, weeding (or hanging chicken wire fencing) this summer and/or you can contribute a vegetable plant , a bag of compost, a garden hose, a bird house (or an idea to catch and move our resident woodchuck elsewhere!)  please contact Paula Chambers: .

Let’s work together to keep the garden going for the Forestdale School community!
