Introducing Sarah Wudyka, Kindergarten Teacher at Forestdale!

What inspired you to be a teacher?   My love of children is what inspired me to be a teacher. I have always wanted to make a difference in the world. Now I know I am doing that every day and I am thankful for being a part of my students’ journeys in life.

Why did you choose Sandwich for this stage of your professional journey?
Returning to the school district that I attended was a very exciting opportunity. It helped me become the teacher and person I am today, so I knew that teaching here would be just as rewarding.

Can you share a fond memory of yourself as a student at the same grade level you now teach?!  I just remember how kind and caring my Kindergarten teacher was. It’s like that quote “People won’t remember what you did, they will remember how you made them feel.” My kindergarten always made me feel happy and loved.

What is the most important thing you have learned about teaching so far? About learning?  Every day is new. The struggles you experienced are in the past. Some days you may feel that nothing went right, that you didn’t reach your students the way you wanted. Focus on the small achievements. Every day may not be good, but there is something good about every day.

Learning looks different for every student. It is so important to know your students’ strengths and learning styles. Then we can make learning unique, engaging, and rewarding for all.

What is your favorite type of technology in or out of the classroom?  The iPads are my favorite in the classroom, just because the uses are endless. Between photography, videos, educational apps, QR code scanning, green screening, digital storytelling; there is always possibilities for integrating technology into any lesson using the iPads.

What hobbies do you enjoy outside of school?  Spending time with family and friends. Anything outdoors (Hiking, beach, kayaking, walks with my dog). Yoga. Watching sports and live music.

What would you like our community to know about teachers in the Sandwich schools?  The teachers in our district are talented, committed, and hard working. There is a community and camaraderie amongst the staff that I feel is special. Being new to the district, I know there is always teachers there willing to help me in any way they can.
