Sandwich STEM Academy and SHS Students Make an Impact with Project 351

by Jeff Duffany, STEM Academy Social Studies Teacher and Project 351 Advisor

On May 15, 2019, Jeff Dufany and our Project 351 Ambassadors presented to the School Committee as part of our Spotlight on Sandwich. His remarks follow. You can hear and watch the students speak in the video below….

Good evening.  I will keep my comments brief and let the students do the talking. Thank you for having us come speak about some of the great work our students are doing here in Sandwich.  For the past 6 years, I have had the privilege of nominating one 8th grader to take part in Project 351 as an ambassador. Project 351 is a non-profit youth leadership organization that promotes service work and leadership skills among the youth of Massachusetts.  Students are chosen for their compassion, kindness, humility and ethic of service. As a mentor, bus captain, and chaperone for Project 351 over the past 5 years, I have watched and been amazed at the accomplishments of our students in this organization. The three students here to talk to you tonight are remarkable young people.  Jack and Molly are both part of the alumni leadership council of Project 351 and continue to be involved with the organization each year. Molly was even selected among her peers to take part in the Playbook initiative of which she will talk about later. Kelly is our ambassador for this year. She brings a positive attitude and tremendous energy to the position.  Her service project this Spring was among the most successful we have had. I would like to turn it over to Jack, Molly, and Kelly to tell you more. Thank you.
