What excites you about teaching in Sandwich?

The Sandwich district, particularly Oak Ridge School, has always been home for me since I was in first grade.  I have been lucky enough to travel all the way to Charleston, South Carolina for my college education and come back to work at my old stomping grounds.  What excites me the most about teaching in Sandwich is coming back home to make a difference in the students’ lives just like my Oak Ridge School teachers did in my life.

What is your favorite teaching memory from the past few years?

It is so hard to pick just one favorite teaching memory from the past few years.  However, there is one particular moment that will never get old.  Teachers are daily teaching new material or reviewing material that may not be completely clear yet to his/her students.  The moment when a student has that “I GET IT” look in their eyes, the light bulb has turned on, and the biggest smile on his or her face is the best feeling and memory of my teaching career.

What is your favorite memory as a student?

My favorite memory as a student was when I was voted 8th grade class President.   I was surprised to win the election because I did not have any previous experience in Student Council.  Being the President of the class gave me the opportunities to work with the school administration, organize and plan activities with my peers, and it helped build my confidence.

What might we be surprised to know about you? I’ve been a Cape Cod lifeguard for eight years and have taught swimming lessons for seven years.
